Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) - 01/2013
Applications are invited from Male & Female Indian Citizens as per Citizenship Act 1995 for the following courses commencing in January 2014 for grant of Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent/Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

Technical Branch:
University Entry Scheme (UES - 2014) (Permanent Commission) for Men
Candidates are to apply only online on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in from 10 December 2012 to 08 January 2013.
Last date for submission of Online applications: 08 January 2013.
Eligibility Conditions:
Flying Branch:
(a). Age Limit: 19 to 23 years as on 01/01/2014 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1991 to 01 Jan 1995 (Both dates inclusive). Those candidates holding valid Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) will be relaxed in age upto 25 years i.e. born between 02 Jan 1989 to 01 Jan 1995 (Both dates inclusive).
(b). Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in any subject area with 60% Marks from a recognized University or Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Technology of 4 years with 60% Marks. Candidates must be passed 12th Examination with Maths and Physics.
(c). Physical Standards: Minimum height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight, Leg length: Min-99 cms. Max-120 cms. Thigh length: Max-64cms. Sitting height: Min-81.5 cms. Max-96 cms. Vision – 6/6 and 6/9
Technical Branch:
(a). Age Limit: 18 to 28 years as on 01/01/2014 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1986 to 01 Jan 1996 (Both dates inclusive).
(b). Educational Qualifications:
i. Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L): Candidates applying for AE(L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Instituion of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate Membership examination of the Institue of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.
ii. Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M): Candidates applying for AE(M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Instituion of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate Membership examination of the Institue of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.
(c). Physical Standards: Minimum Height (Men) – 157.5 cms, (Women) – 152 cms with correlated weight.

AFCAT Selection Procedure:
Eligible candidates who apply with proper details will be called for AFCAT which will be conducted on
24/02/2013 (Sunday). Candidates who qualify in this test will be called for further test which will be done in three stages, Stage-I: Intelligence Test, Stage-II: Psychological Test, Group Test and Interview, Stage-III Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT).
Medical Examinations: If you are recommended by selection Board, you will be sent for the medical examination either at Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi or Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru.
All India Merit List: An All India Merit List is compiled on the basis of your performance in the written test and AFSB interview and subject to being medically fit. Based on the vacancies available in various branches / sub branches, joining instructions are issued to join one of the Training establishments.

Pay and Allowances:
i. Even before you are Commissioned as an Air Force Officer you start earning a monthly stipend of Rs. 21,000/- during last one year of your training period at any of the Air Force Training Institutions.
ii. The following Pay / Allowances would be applicable on grant of Commission to Flying Officers:-
- Pay in Pay Band (Common to all Branches) - Rs 15,600 Per Month (The officer will be placed in PB 3 - 15600-39100)
- Grade Pay :- Rs 5400 PM
- Military Service Pay :- Rs 6000 PM
- Dearness Allowance @ 65 percent :- Rs 17550 PM
- Kit Maintenance Allowance :- Rs 500 PM
- Transport Allowance :- Rs 3200 + DA ( major cities) / 1600 + DA ( Other cities)
iii. In addition the following allowances are admissible to the newly Commissioned Officers in Flying and Technical Branches
- Flying Allowance @ Rs 11250 PM to Flying Branch Officers.
- Technical Allowance @ Rs 2500 PM to Technical Branch Officers.
iv. Gross Monthly Emoluments :The first monthly pay package of Flying Officers in all the branches would be as under (This does not Include other allowances based on place of posting except Transport Allowance of major cities which is included)
1. Flying Branch: Rs. 61580/-
2. Technical Branch: Rs. 52830/-
3. Ground Duty Branch: Rs. 50330/-

From housing facilities to free ration, from medical facilities to schools for your children, Air Force takes care of all your needs. You continue to avail some of these benefits even after your retirement.
Insurance: All Air Force personnel, including Flight Cadets are provided life insurance cover under the Air Force Group Insurance Scheme ( AFGIS). Monthly contribution rates are minimal and the insurance policy covers all contingencies. As an Air Force Officer you are insured for an amount of Rs 50 lakhs with an additional insurance cover of Rs 3.5 lakhs for pilots.
Post-retirement Benefits:
Pension: After retirement from the service, Air Force Officer is entitled to a decent pension which takes care of the needs of the family.
Insurance: Post retirement insurance cover is provided to all Air Force pensioners who have rendered pensionable years of service on payment of minimal premium. The cover given by the Society is upto 72 years of age.
Medical: All the retired officers and their dependents have access to medical rooms and hospitals equipped with the best of the facilities. Apart from being entitled to the medical facilities, retired Air Force personnel is also authorized for the following benefits:
i. Coverage under medical insurance for lifetime.
ii. Grant for Commercial Venture for personnel who have had to leave service due to medical reasons.
AFCAT Scheme of Syllabus:
1. The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions. All questions will be of three marks each. For every correct answer the candidate will get three marks and for every wrong answer one mark will be deducted under negative marking. The total time allotted for the paper is two hours.
2. Each Question Paper will have questions from the following topics:-
(a) General Awareness – History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.
(b) Verbal Ability in English – Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.
(c) Numerical Ability – Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.
(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test – Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability.
