IIST Admission Test (ISAT) 2012
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the first Space University of Asia, offers courses from undergraduate to doctoral level in Space Science and Technology. Situated in the picturesque locale of Valiamala, the Institute is poised to become a world class centre of learning.
The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) at IIST for the year 2012 are made through ISAT-2012.
Admission to UG Programmes:
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the first Space University of Asia, offers courses from undergraduate to doctoral level in Space Science and Technology.
IIST currently offers B.Tech programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences.
B.Tech. Programmes:
1. B.Tech. (AEROSPACE ENGINEERING) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme oriented towards the needs of space technology, and has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering, including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Sciences, and Space Dynamics. This is similar to programmes of the same title available in many reputed Institutions in India and abroad.
2. B.Tech. (AVIONICS) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme comprising of subjects of study in Electronics and Communications Engineering programmes, in addition to study of Advanced Electronics in Digital Communication, Control Systems and Computer Systems used in Aerospace Systems.
3. B.Tech. (PHYSICAL SCIENCES) : is a 4-year under-graduate degree programme oriented towards application of basic sciences in Space Science and Technology. The programme lays a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and gives exposure to important applications of space technology such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Earth System Sciences.

Admissions:
Admissions to the undergraduate programmes in IIST are made through the IIST Admission Test (ISAT) conducted every year.
Brief Details of ISAT 2012:
ISAT is an All India Admission Test, open to all eligible students who have completed the prescribed qualifiying examination under the (10+2) pattern from a recognised board or pre-university. Question Paper framed for ISAT is of objective type and consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The detailed syllabi for the subjects will be included in the ISAT Brochure to be made available in this website.
Admission to B.Tech (2012):
ISAT- 2012, for admission to B.Tech programmes commencing in the academic year 2012, is scheduled to be held on
Saturday, 21st April, 2012 between 09:00 AM to 12:00 NOON, at various centres across India.
Candidates can apply on-line in the prescribed ISAT Application Form that will be made available shortly at
www.iist.ac.in/isat2012. Necessary guidelines for registration of the application, payment of examination fee, eligibility, reservation, centres for examination etc. are provided in this web portal. Candidates must ensure that they satisfy all the eligibility conditions for appearing in ISAT while applying.
IIST Admission Test (ISAT-2012) Notification:
Admissions to the undergraduate programmes (B.Tech.) at IIST for the year 2012 will be made through an All India Admission Test (ISAT-2012). A brief information about ISAT-2012 is given below. More detailed information will be available at the ISAT 2012 website from 1st November 2011.
Schedule of ISAT-2012:
The examination will be held on Saturday, 21st April, 2012 between 09:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (IST)
(The schedule will remain unaltered even if the above date is declared a public holiday).
Type of Examination:
The question paper will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The detailed syllabi based on which ISAT-2012 will be conducted, for the three subjects, namely, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics will be included in the ISAT-2012 Brochure which will be available in ISAT-2012 webpage from 1st November 2011.
How to Apply:
Candidates can apply on-line only. The on-line application form will be available from 10:00 AM on 1st November 2011 to 11:30 PM on 31st December 2011 at the IIST website. Candidates will be guided at this stage about how to complete the application process, remit examination fee etc.

Examination Fee:
Students desirous of appearing in ISAT-2012 shall have to pay examination fee as under:
GEN/OBC male candidates: Rs.600
SC/ST/PD and all female candidates: Rs.300
ELIGIBILITY FOR ISAT-2012:
Candidates must make sure that they satisfy all the eligibility criteria given below for appearing in ISAT-2012:
[Categories : GEN - General, OBC - Other Backward Class, SC - Scheduled Caste, ST - Scheduled Tribe, PD- Physically Disabled]
1.
Citizenship: The candidate has to be an Indian citizen to apply for ISAT-2012.
2.
Date of Birth: Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories should be born on or after October 1, 1987, while those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories should be born on or after October 1, 1982.
3.
Minimum Percentage of Marks in Class X or equivalent examination: Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must have secured at least 70% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination, while those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination.
4.
Minimum Percentage of Marks in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination: Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in the aggregate in their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers in their Qualifying Examination (QE), while those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in the aggregate in their PCM papers in their QE.
5. Year of first appearance for final Qualifying Examination (QE) should be 2011 or 2012.
6. Year of attaining the required percentage of mark in QE should be 2011 or 2012 (For candidates appearing in 2012, results should be available on or before Ist July 2012)
RESERVATION OF SEATS:
As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:
Scheduled Castes (SC) - 15%
Scheduled Tribes (ST) - 7.5%
Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) - 27%
Physically Disabled(PD) candidates - 3% Horizontal reservation
