Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is conducting the Common Entrance Test - 2012 on 21st and 22nd of May, 2012 as per the following schedule for admission to first year Under Graduate courses like Medical, Dental, Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy and Engineering/Technology courses for the academic year 2012-13.

Common Entrance Test – 2012 for Admission to Professional Courses in Karnataka

The Government of Karnataka established Common Entrance Test Cell in the year 1994 for conducting of Entrance Test and to determine the merit of the candidates for admission to Professional courses such as Medical, Dental, Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy, Engineering / Technology & Architecture courses.

Karnataka CET 2012 Important Dates:

i. Date of Notification: 27-02-2012

ii. Date of reaching the brochures with application forms to all the candidates: 22-03-2012

iii. Last date for submission of filled application forms to the Principals of schools and colleges: 10-04-2012

iv. Last date for submission of filled applications by the Principals of the institutions to the KEA: 12-04-2012

v. Last date for submission of filled applications by Karnataka candidates residing outside Karnataka by Speed Post to KEA (Including Horanadu, Gadinadu and other Karnataka candidates): 10-04-2012

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test 2012 is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka candidates and the ward of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants to the First year or First semester of full time courses in Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering, Technology courses and NATA(National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture for Architecture course, in Government / University / Private Aided / Private Un-Aided professional educational institutions in the state of Karnataka for the academic year 2012-13 of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006 (in short ‘Rules’) as amended from time to time and therefore the details and instructions contained in this Brochure are subject to the said Rules. In case of any discrepancy, the Rules shall prevail.

MODE OF CONDUCTING THE TEST:

In order to obtain admission to any of the professional courses through KEA, a candidate must appear for the Common Entrance Test, which will be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore (Herein after referred to as KEA). The Common Entrance Test-2012 will be conducted at 50 places, spread over Karnataka. Candidates who have studied the Qualifying Examination within Karnataka should write 'CET-2012' in a test centre assigned by the KEAwithin the district in which the candidate has studied 2nd PUC or 12th standard.

KANNADA LANGUAGE TEST:

The candidates claiming eligibility for Government seats under Horanadu & Gadinadu Kannadiga clauses and whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava, will have to undergo a Kannada language test, to establish their ability to speak, read and write Kannada. The Kannada Language test will be conducted by KEA as per the above schedule only in Bangalore Centre; therefore such candidates will have to appear for the 'Common Entrance Test - 2012' in a test centre located at BANGALORE Only. The relevant photocopy of the original documents of the parents in support of their claim such as marks cards, study certificates, etc., along with the CET admission ticket should be produced on the day of Kannada Language Test.

The minimum passing marks for all Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates shall be 12 out of 50 marks in Kannada Language Examination conducted by KEAin order to be considered for assignment of ranks and to become eligible for allotment of seats in CET-2012. (The Kannada Language Test paper will be of 4th Standard)

However, the Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates who have studied TEN full academic years in Kannada Medium from 1st standard to 10th standard in places outside the state of Karnataka need not appear for Kannada Language Test conducted by KEA.

Based on the performance of the candidates in the Common Entrance Test and the Qualifying Examination, as the case may be, the merit / rank list will be prepared and published. All the eligible candidates will be considered for allotment of seats in the order of their merit / rank and based on the options and as per the seat matrix issued by the Government.

WHO CAN APPLY:

a) For Medical / Dental courses:

A candidate who has passed the second year Pre-University or 12th standard or equivalent examination (herein after referred to as the “Qualifying Examination” or “Q. E.” in short) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the Q. E. and who has secured not less than 50% of marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the Common Entrance Test (herein after referred to as “CET”) is eligible for admission to Medical and Dental courses. 40% of marks in both Q. E. and CETin case of SC, ST, Category-I and OBC Category candidates.

Based on the performance of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the Common Entrance Test, the Medical / Dental rank list will be prepared and published for admission to Medical and Dental courses.

b) For Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy courses:

A candidate who has passed the Q. E. with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the Q. E. is eligible for admission Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga to courses. 40% of marks in Q. E. in case of SC, ST, Category–I and OBC Category candidates.

Based on the performance of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in both Common Entrance Test and the Qualifying Examination by taking the marks in equal proportions, the ISM and H rank list will be prepared and published separately for admission to Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses.

Further, the candidates seeking admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda /Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, should have completed the age of Seventeen Years as on 31st December of 2012.

c) For Engineering / Technology courses:

A candidate who has passed the Q. E. with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Biology as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained an aggregate minimum of 45% marks in the optional subjects in the Q. E. is eligible for Engineering / Technology courses. 40% of marks in Q. E. in case of SC, ST, Category-I and OBC Category candidates. Provided that, the marks obtained by the candidate in Bio-Technology / Biology in the Q. E., will be considered in place of Chemistry, in case the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for required aggregate percentage, only for the purpose of determination of eligibility and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of Engineering / Technology courses.

Based on the performance of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in both Common Entrance Test and the Qualifying Examination by taking the marks in equal proportions, the Engineering rank list will be prepared and published.

d) For Architecture course:

A candidate who has passed the Q. E. with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects and secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in all subjects in Q. E is eligible for admission to Architecture course. 45% of marks in the case of SC, ST, Category-I, OBC candidates, and person with disability of mental retardation or mental illness (including dyslexia).

Provided that, a candidate should also appear and secure a minimum of 40% marks in NATA (including SC, ST, Category-I and OBC category candidates as per THE COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE IN ITS LETTER NO. CA/ 5/ACADEMIC-NATA/DATED 20-03-2008) conducted by the Council of Architecture. The last date to appear for NATA is 19-05-2012. The candidates should submit the photocopy of the NATA SCORE CARD along with 12th std. marks card by mentioning the CET number on or before 24-05-2012 to KEA either in person or through 'Speed Post'.

Based on the performance of the candidates in both Qualifying Examination and NATA, by taking the marks in equal proportions the Architecture rank list will be prepared and published.

SUBMIT THE FILLED APPLICATION FORM:

The candidates who have received the brochure cum application forms through their schools or colleges should submit their filled applications to the respective schools or colleges. The Principals of all the schools and colleges in Karnataka teaching 2nd PUC or 12th standard including CBSE & CISCE, have been requested to collect the filled application forms from the students of their respective institutions by verifying whether the candidate has written his / her correct 2nd PU register number, PU Student number, etc. along with proper affixation of the candidate LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION and also to forward the filled application forms to the KEA. The last date for submission of filled application forms to the concerned Principals will be 10-04-2012. The candidates who have submitted their filled applications through the schools and colleges should collect their Admission Tickets from the respective schools and colleges on or after 11-05-2012 and the candidates who fail to get their admission ticket, should immediately contact their respective Principals with the photocopy of their filled application form.

The Karnataka candidates residing outside Karnataka (Including Horanadu, Gadinadu and other Karnataka candidates) who have received their brochure cum application form through ‘Speed Post’ should also send the filled application forms by ‘Speed Post’ only directly to KEA on or before and such candidates will get their admission tickets to their home addresses as furnished by them in their application forms, by ‘Speed Post’ on or after 11-05-2012.

The candidates who have submitted their filled application forms by ‘Speed Post’ directly to KEA, who fail to get the admission ticket well within the notified date should immediately contact the Executive Director, KEA, along with a photocopy of their filled application form and the ‘Speed Post’ acknowledgement for having sent the application form to KEA. Otherwise, admission tickets will not be issued to such candidates and they will not be allowed to write the test.

SYLLABUS:

The question papers of the Common Entrance Test will be mostly based on the First and Second PUC syllabi prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.

DURATION, QUESTION PAPER & OMR ANSWER SHEETS:

The Common Entrance Test will be held in TWO days in FOUR different sessions for four subjects. On the first day, test will be conducted for Biology and Mathematics subjects in two sessions and on the next day test will be conducted for Physics and Chemistry subjects in two sessions as per the date and time given. Each paper will be conducted for 60 marks each with 80 minutes duration.

Each question paper will be of (Objective) Multiple Choice type. The question paper in each subject will be in 16 different versions and each question will have four different options. Each question will carry ONE mark. The candidate is expected to attempt all the questions, in order to obtain maximum marks. In other words, there is no choice among questions.

THERE WILL BE NO NEGATIVE EVALUATION WITH REGARD TO WRONG ANSWERS BUTMARKS WILLNOTBE AWARDED IN RESPECTOF MULTIPLE ANSWERS.

The version code of the question paper will be boldly printed on facing sheet of the question paper. The version codes used in each paper will be from A- 1 to A- 4, B - 1 to B - 4, C - 1 to C - 4 and D - 1 to D - 4. The version code of the question papers given to a student may be different OR may be the same for different sessions.

The candidates will have to mark correct options on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) answer sheet, which will be supplied at the beginning of each session of the test.

The candidates are required to COMPULSORILY AFFIX THEIR LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION in the space provided on the bottom portion of the OMR answer sheet (top sheet) with the ink-pad provided by the room Invigilator, after completion of each session of the test.

MERIT & PUBLICATION OF MERIT LISTS:

(A) DETERMINATION OF MERIT:


The merit of the candidates who appear for the Common Entrance Test–2012 will be determined are detailed below:

(1) In the case of Medical and Dental Courses, the merit will be determined only on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects taken together in the Common Entrance Test – 2012.

(2) In the case of System of Medicine and Homoeopathy Courses, the merit will be determined on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry & Biology subjects in Common Entrance Test – 2012 and the marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in the Qualifying Examination, taken in equal proportions.

(3) In the case of Engineering and Technology courses, the merit will be determined on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects in Common Entrance Test–2012 and the marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in the Qualifying Examination, taken in equal proportions. Provided that where the merit of two or more candidates is the same, the interse merit shall be determined with reference to the marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test in Biology in the case of Medical / Dental / Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy courses and in Mathematics in the case of Engineering / Technology courses and where the marks obtained in such cases are equal then the interse merit shall be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in Chemistry in the case of Medical / Dental / Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy courses and in Physics in the case of Engineering /Technology courses and where the marks obtained are equal again the interse merit shall be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in the respective subjects in the Qualifying examination as stipulated above and where marks obtained are equal again, the interse merit shall be determined on the basis of the age of the candidate, wherein the elder candidate will be considered before the younger.

(4) In the case of Architecture Course, the merit will be determined on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in the qualifying examination in all subjects and the (valid NATA score) taken in equal proportions.

(B) PUBLICATION OF MERIT LISTS:

After the completion of the entrance test, the ANSWER KEY will be published on 31-05-2012 in the KEA Website. The candidates / parents / lecturers can file their objections, if any, addressed to the “Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore” on or before 16-05-2012 either in person or only through SPEED POST/ email: keauthority-ka@nic.in , with regard to any of the published answer Key, along with all supporting documents / justification. The objections received by the KEAwill be placed before an Expert Committee, whose decision will be final for determination of the right answer key. The answer key approved by the Expert Committee will be applied during evaluation for determination of merit order.

As per the merit determined by the KEA, the Medical / Dental, ISM & H, Engineering and Architecture ranks will be assigned to the eligible candidates. Separate result sheets showing the Medical / Dental, ISM & H, Engineering and Architecture ranks will be published on 31-05-2012 in all the CET-2012 examination centres and the same will also be made available on KEAWebsite http://kea.kar.nic.in Separate merit lists in respect of the wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants for the respective courses will also be prepared and published on the KEA Website. The correct answer key and the list of candidates whose results have been withheld and the reasons for withholding the results will also be published along with the results.

The candidates whose results are with-held for want of 2nd PUC / 12th std. Marks and date of birth such candidates / parents need not to be worried because, ranks will be assigned as and when they submit the required documents on the specified dates during office hours.

Eligibility Criteria:

(a) For Medical / Dental courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in the PCB group and should secure a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB subjects in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group both in Qualifying Examination and Common Entrance Test.

(b) For Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB group irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group in the qualifying examination.

For admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st of December 2012.

(c) For Engineering / Technology courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.

(d) For Architecture course, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent examination with Mathematics as a compulsory optional subject and obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in all the subjects in the qualifying examination (45% of marks in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes), and should compulsorily appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) and get a minimum of 40% in it. (Including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes)
