Punjabi University is to conduct centralized online counseling for admission to five-year B.A.,LL.B./B.A.,LL.B. (Hons) and three-year LL.B. courses in colleges/institutions situated in Punjab and affiliated to Punjabi University Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and Panjab University Chandigarh for the session 2012-13. The details will be available in the prospectus on website www.punjabiuniversity.ac.in with effect from July, 2012. The online registration for counseling will be available from 09th July, 2012 to 13th July, 2012 on website www.punjablawadmissions2012.org.

Important Instructions for Online Counseling:
A) General Instructions
The Candidates seeking admission to Five-Year B.A., LL.B./B.A., LL.B. (Hons) and Three-Year LL.B. Courses in the Departments/Regional Centres of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Punjabi University, Patiala and the colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala and situated in the State of Punjab shall submit online application for centralized counseling.
85 % seats would be reserved for the candidates from within the State as per the eligibility criteria of the Government of Punjab and 15 % will be open to candidates of other States/UTs on All India basis.
B) Online Submission of Application Forms
The application form shall be submitted by the candidates online at the following website: www.punjablawadmissions2012.org
Each Candidate shall deposit counseling fee in any branch of State Bank of Patiala after taking out a print of deposit slip as per details below:
(i) Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Candidates: Rs. 600 each.
(ii) Other Candidates (Other than SC/ST): Rs. 1200 each.
No application form submitted by post/by hand will be accepted and the candidature of such candidates for centralized counseling will stand automatically rejected. Such candidates will have no claim whatsoever.
The candidates shall fill up online the application form very carefully. They are required to fill up all the applicable columns with utmost care. They are advised to remember their ‘password’ as the same may be needed at the time of counseling.
C) Educational Qualifications
The candidates are advised to check their eligibility and read the eligibility requirements, general conditions etc as provided in the notification issued by the Government of Punjab (vide no. 13/10/2010-6 Edu. 1/1161 Dated Chandigarh 09/05/2012) and appended herewith. Every candidate claiming reserved category must indicate the reserved category claimed.
The candidates are advised to check the eligibility norms of the Bar Council of India and those prescribed by the respective Universities before applying for admission and take a well considered and informed decision. The candidates shall be solely responsible for their choice of the University.
The eligibility norms as prescribed by the Bar Council of India and the educational qualifications as prescribed by the respective Universities for 5-Year B.A., LL.B/B.A., LL.B. (Hons) and 3-Year LL.B. are as under:
Bar Council of India:
(a) Three Year Law Degree Course: An applicant who has graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State legislature or an equivalent national institution recognized as a Deemed to be University or foreign University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, may apply for a three years’ degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.B. degree on successful completion of the regular program conducted by a University whose degree in law is recognized by the Bar Council of India for the purpose of enrolment.
(b) Integrated Degree Program: An applicant who has successfully completed Senior Secondary School course (‘+2’) or equivalent (such as 11+1, ‘A’ level in Senior School Leaving certificate course) from a recognized University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the program of the Centres of Legal Education to obtain the integrated degree in law with a degree in any other subject as the first degree from the University whose such a degree in law is recognized by the Bar Council of India for the purpose of enrolment.
Provided that applicants who have obtained + 2 Higher Secondary Pass Certificate or First Degree Certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission in the Integrated Five Years course or three years’ LL.B. course, as the case may be.
Explanation: The applicants who have obtained 10 + 2 or graduation / post graduation through open Universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission in the law courses.
Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission:
Bar Council of India may from time to time, stipulate the minimum percentage of marks not below 45% of the total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants, to be obtained for the qualifying examination, such as +2 Examination in case of Integrated Five Years’ course or Degree course in any discipline for Three years’ LL.B. course, for the purpose of applying for and getting admitted into a Law Degree Program of any recognized University in either of the streams. Provided that such a minimum qualifying marks shall not automatically entitle a person to get admission into an institution but only shall entitle the person concerned to fulfill other institutional criteria notified by the institution concerned or by the government concerned from time to time to apply for admission.
Age on admission:
(a) Subject to the condition stipulated by a University on this behalf and the high degree of professional commitment required, the maximum age for seeking admission into a stream of integrated Bachelor of law degree program, is limited to twenty years in case of general category of applicants and to twenty two years in case of applicants from SC, ST and other Backward communities.
(b) Subject to the condition stipulated by a University, and the general social condition of the applicants seeking legal education belatedly, the maximum age for seeking admission into a stream of Three Year Bachelor Degree Course in Law, is limited to thirty years with right of the University to give concession of 5 further years for the applicant belonging to SC or ST or any other Backward Community.
Educational Qualifications for Admission to Five-Year B.A.,LL.B, B.A.,LL.B. (Hons) and Three-Year LL.B as prescribed by Universities.
Weightage in the merit for Rural Area Candidates: After normalization of marks, 5 percent marks will be given to candidates who have passed their both 8th and 10th class examinations from schools situated in the rural area of Punjab. For this they will have to submit a certificate of that school falling in Rural Area at the time of passing 8th as well as 10th class issued by the Head of the school, duly countersigned by the concerned D.E.O.
Shifting/Conversion of Seats:
There shall be three counselings. Shifting/Conversion of seats will be allowed as per the rules contained in the notification.
An additional fee of Rs. 300 each from SC/ST candidates and Rs. 600 each from candidates belonging to other categories will be charged each time from such candidates who apply for shifting of seats in each of the subsequent counselings. Similar fees will be charged from the candidates who fail to deposit tuition fee after allocation of seat in a particular counseling and want to participate in a subsequent counseling.
