CLAT 2012 Important Dates:

i. Issue of Application Forms: 2nd January, 2012 (Monday)
ii. Last date for submission of filled-in forms: 31st March 2012 (Saturday)
iii. Issue of Hall Tickets: Up to 14th April 2012 (Saturday)
iv. Date of CLAT-2012 Examination: 13th May 2012 (Sunday) from 03:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
v. Publication of Result: 28th May 2012 (Monday)

RGNUL B.A., LL.B. (HONS.) Admission 2012 - 2013

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, was established by the State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006). The Act incorporated a University of Law of national stature in Punjab, thereby fulfilling the need for a Centre of Excellence in legal education in the modern era of globalization and liberalization. RGNUL started functioning from its Headquarters-Mohindra Kothi, The Mall, Patiala w.e.f. 26 May 2006. The University acquired approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI) in July 2006. The University also got registered with the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and has been declared fit to obtain grant from the (UGC) under Section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956.

Presently, RGNUL is functioning from a heritage building of the erstwhile Patiala State, that is, Mohindra Kothi, The Mall, Patiala located in the heart of Patiala city in a pollution free environment. Keeping in view the requirements of a National University of Law, necessary infrastructure has been developed in the form of classrooms, lectures halls, computer labs, library, reading hall, health centre, gymnasium and other sports facilities. There are separate buildings such as Administrative Block, Academic Block, Library, Hostels, Mess House, Canteen etc. to cater to the needs of a national institution.

RGNUL is also a member of a number of professional organizations of national and international stature like the Asian Law Institute (ASLI), Singapore; Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA); Forum of South Asian Clinical Law Teachers (FSACLT), Goa; Indian Economic Association (IEA); Indian Institute of Comparative Law (IICL), Jaipur; Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi; Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi; Indian Political Science Association (IPSA); Indian Society of Criminology (ISC), Madras; Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi; Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS), New Delhi; International Association of Law Schools (IALS), and International Law Students Association (ILSA), United States of America.

Undergraduate (UG) Admission:

B.A., LL.B. (HONS.): 5 YEAR INTEGRATED COURSE

RGNUL offers B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Programme whereunder Social Sciences subjects like Economics, English, History, Political Science and Sociology are taught as major and minor subjects alongwith Law subjects in the first two years of study. From third year onwards, the curriculum comprises all law subjects. All subjects are compulsory in the first three years of study. However, in the fourth and fifth year, students are offered specializations in four streams, viz., Business Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and International Law. The successful students are awarded Honours Degree with specialization.

RGNUL follows the Semester System. The teaching methodology includes extensive and intensive class room teaching with emphasis on participative learning. The Courses include assignments, seminars and project work. The thrust of the course is not just on learning but also professional training.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

The Admission shall be based exclusively on the merit in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, to qualify for admission:

1. The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination of the Punjab School Education Board or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate (45% marks for SC/ST and Persons with disability).

2. The age of the candidate must not be more than 20 years in case of General and 22 years in case of the SC/ST and Persons with disability (PWD) as on 1 July 2012.

3. The candidates appearing in or awaiting results of the qualifying examination held or being held in March/April 2012 may also apply and appear for the Combined Law Admission Test (CLAT) provisionally, subject to the condition that they shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed percentage of marks at the time of their interview/counseling.

4. The candidature of:

(a) those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks and/or fail to produce result on the date of interview/counseling, or

(b) those who get compartments/re-appear in any subject in the qualifying examination, shall be cancelled and subsequent securing qualifying marks shall not be considered in any case.

Candidate applying in the SC/ST and Person with disability category is required to submit category certificate from the competent authority.

INTAKE AND RESERVATION: The total number of seats for the B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Five Years Integrated Course shall be One Hundred and Twenty (120). Division of the seats shall be as under:

1. General Category - 71 Seats
2. Schedule Caste (15%) - 18 Seats
3. Schedule Tribes (7½%) - 09 Seats
4. Persons with Disability (3%) - 04 Seats
5. Punjab Residents (10%) - 12 Seats
6. Ancestral Resident of Village Sidhuwal, District Patiala - 01 Seat
7. Foreign Nationals - 05 Seats
Total Seats: 120 Seats

The candidature of the Punjab Resident Category shall be determined on submission of an affidavit and a certificate as per the Punjab Government letter No. 1/3/95-3PPII/9619 dated 06.06.96 as amended vide the Punjab Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms letter No. 11/3/95-3PP-II/80 dated 01.01.99.

Admission to the category of the 'Foreign Nationals' shall be the direct admission on the basis of inter-se merit of the qualifying examination and the interview. These candidates are to apply through CLAT form directly to the Registrar, RGNUL.

Postgraduate (PG) Admission:

LL.M.:
2 YEAR POST GRADUATION COURSE

The RGNUL offers two-year LL.M. Post Graduation Course with specialization in Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and International Law.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

The Admission shall be based exclusively on the merit of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The candidate must have passed the LL.B./B.L. Degree examination from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law or any other University whose degrees are recognized by this University, with minimum 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST and Person with disability) shall be eligible for admission to the course.

1. Candidates appearing in/awaiting results of the qualifying examination being held in April/May 2012 may also apply and appear provisionally for the Admission Test, subject to the condition that they shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of interview/counseling.

2. The candidature of:

(a) those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks and/or fail to produce result on the date of interview/counseling, or

(b) those who get compartments/re-appear in any subject in the qualifying examination, shall be cancelled and subsequent securing qualifying marks shall not be considered in any case.

Total Seats: 20 Seats

The admission to foreign national students shall be on the basis of inter-se merit of the qualifying examination and interview. Foreign national students are to apply through CLAT form directly to Registrar RGNUL.
