Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) Examination Scheme

Karnataka SET (K-SET) 2011 Exam Date: 23^rd October, 2011 (Sunday)

KSET Scheme of Examination:

The K-SET will consists of three papers, Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III. Examination for the all the three papers will be held on 28th August 2011 (SUNDAY), in two separate sessions as under:

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50) questions. In the event of candidate attempting more than fifty (50) questions, the first fifty (50) questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II shall consist of questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each paper will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 compulsory objective type questions of two marks each.

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I and Paper-II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided along with the Test Booklet. Detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be provided ith this website shortly.

Paper-III will be evaluated only for those candidates who are able to secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II, as per the following table:

However, the final qualifying criteria for Eligibility for Lectureship shall be decided by K-SET before declaration of result.

Paper-III Shall consist of questions based on the subjects selected by the candidate. As per the revised guidelines effective form June 2010 by the UGC, New Delhi, following is the question pattern for paper-III.

Section-I: Essay writing - two questions with internal choice on general themes and contemporary theoretical or of disciplinary relevance may be given. The candidate is expected to write up to 500 words for each question of 20 marks (2 Q X 20 M=40 Marks). In case the questions are based on electives the choices should have questions from each elective; otherwise all choices should be of general nature, common to all candidates. In case of science subjects like Computer science and Applications, Environmental Science, Electronic Science etc., two questions carrying 20 marks may be given in place of essay type questions. The questions in this section are numbered as 1 and 2.

Section-II: There will be three extended answer based questions on the major specialization/electives to test the analytical ability of the candidate. Questions will be on all major specialization / electives and the candidate is asked to choose one specialization/elective and answer the three questions. There is no internal choice. Each question should be answered in up to 300 words and shall carry 15 marks each (3 Q X 15 M=45 Marks). Where there is no specialization / elective 3 questions will be from across syllabus. The questions in this section are numbered from 3 to 5.

Section-III: Contains nine questions across the syllabus. The questions in this section are definitional or seeking particular information and are to be answered in up to 50 words each. For science subjects as mentioned in Section-1, there may be short numerical/computational problems. Each question will carry 10 marks (9 Q X 10 M=90 Marks). There are no internal choice. The questions in this section will be numbered from 6 to 14.

Section-IV: It requires candidates to answer questions from a given text of around 200-300 words taken from the works of a known thinker/author. There will be five carefully considered specific questions on the given text, requiring an answer in up to 30 words each. This section carries 5 questions of 5 marks each (5 Q X 5 M =25 Marks). In case of science subjects, there may be a theoretical/numerical problem. These questions are meant to test critical thinking ability to comprehend and apply knowledge one possesses. Questions in this section are numbered from 15 to 19.

1. i) For visually handicapped (VH) candidates 30 minutes extra time will be provided separately for Paper-I and Paper-II. For Paper-III, 45 minutes extra time shall be provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate. Candidates seeking services of scribes such of those visually handicapped have to make a written request at least 15 days before the date of examination to the Nodal officer of the respective test center opted by the candidate. Those Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates who are not in a position to write in their own handwriting can also avail these services by making prior request (at least 15 days before the date of examination) in writing to the Nodal officer of the respective test center opted by the candidate. Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other Physically Handicapped candidates.

2. Syllabus of Test: Syllabus for K-SET examination will be on the pattern of the UGC-NET. Syllabi for all the K-SET subjects can be downloaded from this website. K-SET center, Mysore will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.

3. In Paper III, candidate has the option to answer in English or Kannada language except the languages like English, Kannada, Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu where the candidate is required to write in the concerned language only.

4. In case of any discrepancy found in the English or Kannada version, the questions in English version shall be taken as final.
